Brasfield & Gorrie Generates Economic Impact on Mobile Area through Work at Airbus Campus

November 12, 2014

General contractor completes second of three projects, continues construction on Airbus campus

Birmingham, Ala. (Nov. 12, 2014) – Brasfield & Gorrie today announced that the company’s construction work on the Airbus campus in Mobile, Alabama, has had an economic impact on the local community. According to company officials, nearly $20 million in contracts has been sourced to local subcontractors and vendors over the course of the general contractor’s work on the campus.

Additionally, nearly 60 percent of all craft personnel on these jobs were hired locally from surrounding counties, including Mobile, Baldwin, Washington and Escambia. Nearly 40 percent of Brasfield & Gorrie’s subcontractors and vendors were local.

With the recent completion of a powerhouse for the Mobile campus, a project led by Honeywell, Brasfield & Gorrie has now completed two of its three Airbus projects. Opened in November 2014, the 15,000 sq ft facility includes electrical distribution equipment and a central utility plant that will supply all utilities for assembly of the A320 family of aircraft. Utilities include potable water, sanitary sewer, electricity, hot water, chilled water, and compressed air. The facility also houses building management and fire protection systems.

Brasfield & Gorrie teamed with Thompson Engineering and Burns & McDonnell to complete this design-build project.

Brasfield & Gorrie’s other projects on the Airbus campus include the final assembly line piling and foundations project, which was completed in May 2014, and the GCA package including the build out of the final assembly line hangar and service building, and complete construction of the logistics center.  This package is currently under construction and will be completed in 2015.
