The West Side Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) was over one-third of the largest single municipal project ever undertaken in Northwest Arkansas. To be environmentally friendly to the Illinois River and the neighboring state of Oklahoma, the plant was designed with the most stringent standards in mind. The 32-million-gallon-per-day treatment plant consists of 38 structures comprised of more than 33,000 cubic yards of concrete, 2,800 tons of reinforcing steel, 88,000 tons of stone, 1,000 tons of ductile iron pipe, and 13 pre-engineered metal buildings. The plant process is comprised of 37 different equipment systems. Brasfield & Gorrie also constructed 9,290 linear feet of berms to create and restore over 25 acres of wetland located in areas north of the plant site.
