Gulf Power Plant Crist is an existing coal-burning power plant located in Pensacola, Florida. This project consisted of installation of foundations in support of a new jet bubbling reactor (JBR). A JBR is a type of scrubber designed to remove sulfur dioxide and other impurities from plant emissions. The project involved a combination of large equipment foundations and small spread footings. Some were supported by various previously installed piling systems, and some were simple spread footings. Through other existing contracts, Southern Company provided all piling, excavation, and backfill. Brasfield & Gorrieā€™s contract involved formwork, rebar, concrete placement, and embedded items. Materials included 11,200 cubic yards of concrete, 935 tons of reinforcing steel, and over 1,600 anchor bolts.
