Brasfield & Gorrie Supports Construction Camp for Girls

July 17, 2018

Brasfield & Gorrie recently partnered with the Dallas chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) to host a day camp that educated young girls about the construction industry through presentations and activities.

More than 90 girls ages six through nine from Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas learned about the construction industry during the camp. Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas is a nonprofit organization delivering life-changing programs and experiences that equip girls to overcome socio-economic barriers.

The camp partnership is an example of how Brasfield & Gorrie is working to create a diverse and robust future workforce by exposing students to construction careers. The company partners with a variety of programs, including local high school programs across its footprint and national programs such as ACE Mentor Program of America, to help attract and train tomorrow’s workers. The company also has an extensive co-op and internship program, with more than 150 students working at Brasfield & Gorrie jobsites and offices this summer.

Educational events at the day camp included a panel discussion with industry professionals, a hands-on planter building activity, and presentations focusing on various topics including safety and construction equipment.

Brasfield & Gorrie employees volunteered by helping manage the events of the day and providing professional insights from their roles as leaders in the construction industry.

Brasfield & Gorrie was joined by United Rentals, King of Texas Roofing, Regional Hispanic Contractors Associations (RHCA), and Gerdau Reinforcing Steel to sponsor the event presented by Girls Inc. and NAWIC. The event was held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, at the RHCA offices in Dallas.
