Brasfield & Gorrie Marks Construction Milestone at New Medical School in Auburn University’s Research Park

October 15, 2014

Birmingham, Ala. (Oct. 15, 2014) – Brasfield & Gorrie today announced that the company recently celebrated a construction milestone at the new Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) campus in Auburn, Alabama.

A topping out ceremony was held on Oct. 2, 2014, to mark the recent structural completion of the facility, which is located on a 15-acre site in Auburn University’s Research Park.

The new facility will house programs from VCOM at Auburn. The $20 million project includes a new 92,000 sq ft, four-story building that will include classrooms, small-group learning rooms, laboratories and a technology center. In addition, VCOM will collaborate with the Auburn Research and Technology Foundation on biomedical research and healthcare projects.

The project at Auburn University expands VCOM’s mission to educate and train physicians to serve rural and medically underserved populations. VCOM currently operates an accredited osteopathic medical college with two campuses, one in a Public/Private partnership with Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, and one that is part of the College Town Consortium in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The college also will operate as a Public/Private partnership with Auburn University, with no cost to the state taxpayer.

Recently, VCOM announced that the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) granted extended accreditation to the VCOM-Auburn campus, which allows the new college to begin recruiting and admitting students for fall 2015.

Serving as general contractor, Brasfield & Gorrie is partnering with Alabama-based architect Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood on this project, which will be completed in 2015.
