Birmingham, Ala. (April 24, 2014) – Brasfield & Gorrie today announced that one of its safety leaders has been honored by the Alabama chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).

During an awards ceremony today, Brasfield & Gorrie Regional Safety Director Steve Sawyer received the ASSE Alabama Chapter’s Safety Professional of the Year award. The most prestigious award granted by the society, the award recognizes safety professionals for their exceptional contributions to safety and health. Sawyer was unanimously selected for this honor by a panel of judges for his contributions to safety and health in Alabama.

“Over his 14 years at Brasfield & Gorrie, Steve has been instrumental in creating a lasting safety culture supported by a sustainable safety management system,” said Brasfield & Gorrie Corporate Safety Director Troy Ogden. “Safety leaders like Steve are essential to upholding our company’s commitment to achieving injury-free work sites for our employees, clients and associates.”

As part of Brasfield & Gorrie’s commitment to safety, its top corporate value, the company recently joined an alliance with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other organizations in Atlanta, Ga., to reduce workers’ exposure to silica. Designed to provide employers and workers in the construction industry with information, guidance and training to prevent overexposure to crystalline silica dust, the alliance was formed on April 15, 2014.
