NASA Space Launch System Test Stands

CS LH2 STA is in the MSFC Test Stand 1/15/2019 - the Core Stage LH2 STA was successfully lifted and installed into the test stand. It was a little cold but so worth it. It was spectacular! A huge thanks to the MSFC transportation crew, Engineering test lab, GSE team and Stages NASA and Boeing team for another flawless event. We are in the process of securing 192 bolts attaching the lift ring to the stand. Some time on Tuesday day shift we should be completely torqued. Julie Bassler SLS Stages Element Manager MSFC, AL 256-544-1430 NASA recently loaded a liquid hydrogen test tank for America’s new deep space rocket, the Space Launch System (SLS), into test stands at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. The SLS is the most powerful rocket ever built! The tank will hold more than 500,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen and, when combined with liquid oxygen, the fuels produce a powerful combustion thrust to launch the SLS into our solar system. We completed construction of the test stands used for this test in 2016.
