Biomedical Partnership Center and Flex Laboratory

Raleigh, North Carolina

Client:
Capital Associates

Project Size:
47,830 sq ft

The Biomedical Partnership Center is a 47,837 sq ft lab building at the Centennial Biomedical Campus near the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at North Carolina State University.

Build-outs include the 19,976 sq ft provost research laboratory tenant improvement on the second floor and the 3,275 sq ft BSL-2 lab build-out on the first floor for Murphy Brown Smithfield.

The project used an air-cooled chiller and boilers to service dedicated 100 percent outside air air-handling units (AHUs) for the laboratory spaces with mixed-air AHUs for office and support areas. Humidifiers in the laboratory spaces maintain humidity requirements, with laboratory space pressurization and differential pressures controlled with tracking air valves. Critical electrical loads are backed up with a standby generator.

The new structure is the first public-private partnership building on the CVM campus.
