Brasfield & Gorrie Promotes Healthy Workplace

October 21, 2013

Company’s health and wellness initiatives help employees choose active, healthy lifestyles

Birmingham, Ala. (Oct. 21, 2013) – Brasfield & Gorrie’s Birmingham office is promoting a healthy workplace through its commitment to health and wellness initiatives.

“We take a holistic approach to investing in our employees,” said Brasfield & Gorrie Human Resources Director Rebecca Brown. “We want our employees to be able to achieve not only their career goals, but also their personal goals. Our health and wellness programs provide resources to support employees in choosing active, healthy lifestyles.”

Brasfield & Gorrie’s corporate headquarters in Birmingham features a full onsite gym with a weight area and cardio equipment, including treadmills, stationary bikes and elliptical machines. The company also offers weekly group fitness classes and personal training led by its full-time fitness and meal coordinator.

“We offer between six and eight group fitness classes each week, and our gym is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to employees and their families,” said Brasfield & Gorrie Fitness and Meal Coordinator Jenny Martz.

Brasfield & Gorrie’s exercise programs are complemented by its efforts to promote healthy eating choices. The company’s Hard Hat Café provides employees with convenient access to healthy options, including fresh fruit, healthy snacks and healthy packaged meals, such as fresh salads. The company also offers a daily meal program that allows employees to order meals catered into the office. The meal program offers a different menu each day from a rotation of local restaurants, and typically includes healthy options.

In addition to exercise and nutrition initiatives, the company seeks to promote health and wellness through annual wellness fairs. This year’s fair will be held Oct. 22, 2013, and available services will include: basic health screenings, flu shots, body fat analysis, bone density screenings, foot analysis, flexibility screenings and chair massages.

Another component of Brasfield & Gorrie’s health and wellness program involves ongoing education on health and wellness topics. The company provides periodical health and wellness seminars, such as a shoe and foot clinic held in August and an injury prevention clinic held in October. The company also distributes a monthly health and wellness newsletter with tips on nutrition, exercise and wellness, as well as healthy recipes.

The company’s significant investment in health and wellness programs demonstrates the value it places on providing a rewarding work environment and fostering a rich company culture. Earlier this year, the company earned first place in the Birmingham Business Journal’s 2013 Best Places to Work contest in the large companies category.
