Brasfield & Gorrie Celebrates Topping Out

June 5, 2013

Kingwood Medical Center reaches milestone on South Tower Addition

Kingwood, Texas (June 5, 2013) Brasfield & Gorrie officially topped out the South Tower Addition at Kingwood Medical Center last week, making the final concrete pour on May 31, 2013.

The project includes a three-story addition as well as renovations to the existing hospital. The first floor will include 12 labor, delivery, and recovery rooms; eight high-risk antepartum beds; 24 neonatal intensive care beds; two C-section operating rooms; and a four-bed obstetric triage suite. The second floor will house 36 postpartum beds and 32 well-baby nursery beds. The third floor will be shell space intended for future pediatric and medical/surgical beds. Brasfield & Gorrie is also building a new central energy plant as part of the 152,000 sq ft project.

While constructing the addition, Brasfield & Gorrie is completing multiple renovations to the existing hospital. Renovated spaces will include administrative, admissions, and kitchen and dining areas. The project will also add parking to the southeast and northwest corners of the campus.

Brasfield & Gorrie is continuing its strong partnership with HCA and Kingwood Medical Center after completing a two-story vertical expansion to the existing patient tower at Kingwood Medical Center in 2011.

The South Tower project began in October 2012 and is expected to complete in October 2014. Gould Turner Group is the architect on the expansion.

“Marking the topping out on the South Tower is an exciting milestone and demonstrates the hard work and dedication of our field personnel and the entire project team. We look forward to turning the new addition over to Kingwood Medical Center. This facility will allow them to enhance their services and continue providing the best care to the Kingwood community,” said Ben Rooke, Division Manager at Brasfield & Gorrie.
