Plant Miller Gate 2 Entrance Bridge

Quinton, Alabama

Client:
Alabama Power Company

Installation of the new 200-ft entrance bridge replaced the existing bridge, originally built in the 1970s. Because access at Gate 2 could not be interrupted, the new bridge was built beside the existing bridge. The new two-span bridge consists of concrete girders and caissons, supports two lanes of traffic, and crosses over three railroad tracks which serve as the main service line for coal to the plant. The rail bed beneath the bridge was widened to make room for a fourth track.

Brasfield & Gorrie self-performed the girder erection, stay-in-place decking, rebar, formwork and concrete placement, rock demolition, mass grading, retaining wall, and barrier rail installations.
