With less than 12 months to build a new production facility for the largest brick distributor in the Southeast, Brasfield & Gorrie worked with the owner in a design-build approach to successfully meet time constraints and environmental regulations while staying within budget. Brasfield & Gorrie worked with designers and suppliers in Germany, Sweden, Seattle, Ohio, and North Carolina to facilitate equipment design coordination. The equipment included a raw material grinder, hopper and conveyor systems, crushers and screens, mixers and extruders, a kiln, brick cutters, and loading robots. The plant location was selected so that the plant could use methane gas from a nearby landfill, and a 6-mile methane and natural gas pipeline and gas blending station were installed. At capacity, the plant will produce 136 million bricks annually. The plant includes a manufacturing facility, raw material storage and grinding facility, offices, a break facility, a van dock, and a rail dock and spur.
