Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Charlotte reaches construction milestone
August 21, 2025

General contractor Brasfield & Gorrie recently topped out at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Charlotte. This multi-phase project involves the renovation and expansion of an existing facility that provides accommodation for families of children receiving medical care. Topping out marks an important construction milestone: the project reaching its full height.
“The progress our team has made in just two months is a reflection of the collaboration and teamwork driving this project,” said Michael Byrd, regional vice president and division manager at Brasfield & Gorrie. “It’s a privilege to witness the mission of Ronald McDonald House firsthand and contribute to their continued growth.”
The expansion will add 850 sq ft above the existing drop-off portico, creating two new guest rooms and improving the entrance experience. Additionally, a new 1,255 sq ft mansard roof will match the existing architectural shingles.
In the basement, the current workroom will be transformed into office space to support administrative operations. Other interior renovations include a reconfigured check-in area, and updates to four guest suites to incorporate flexible studio accommodations. These thoughtful upgrades will improve comfort, functionality and the overall guest experience, furthering the mission of the Ronald McDonald House to provide a supportive home-away-from-home for families in need.
“This expansion is more than just bricks and mortar, it’s about making room for more families when they need us most,” said Denise Cubbedge, CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Charlotte. “These renovations will allow us to welcome more parents, siblings, and loved ones into a space that feels like home, offering comfort and care during some of their most challenging days. We’re grateful to Brasfield & Gorrie for helping us bring this vision to life.”
Brasfield & Gorrie has worked in North Carolina for nearly 40 years. The general contractor opened a full-service, brick and mortar office in Charlotte in 2010 and has worked on more than 850 projects in the state.
