Brasfield & Gorrie built the original James H. Miller, Jr. Electric Generating Plant in 1976, and our team returned three decades later to complete the first of many upgrades. Since 2006, our team has completed several projects for Plant Miller, including a wastewater management system, a two-span entrance bridge, a gypsum dewatering facility, limestone silos, and much more. With four generating units and a total capacity of 2,640,000 kW, this coal plant is a crucial component of Alabama’s power grid.
This wastewater management system is the flagship build for Brasfield & Gorrie’s recent history with Plant Miller, where our teams have been providing state-of-the-art upgrades since 2006. The project scope included installation of a lagging shoring system, storm drainage, soldier pile, and 36,000 cu yds of concrete foundation among other components. The shoring, excavation, rebar installation, formwork, and concrete placement portions of the scope were all self-performed by direct-hire Brasfield & Gorrie craft employees.
