Brasfield & Gorrie to Host 8th Annual BBQ Cook-Off for Charities

Birmingham’s largest rooftop cook-off event to be held Aug. 29, 2013
Birmingham, Alabama (August 24, 2013) — Brasfield & Gorrie will host its 8th annual BBQ Cook-Off for Charity on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The largest rooftop cooking event in Birmingham, the cook-off is expected to raise thousands of dollars for local nonprofit organizations.
The event is hosted by the Brasfield & Gorrie estimating department and will feature 46 grill teams vying for the title of top barbecue griller. A special panel of judges will taste the meat and sauce prepared by each competitor and will award first, second and third place trophies for the best barbecue in town. To support the event, the public is invited to purchase “grazing” tickets that will enable them to sample each team’s barbecue and to vote for their favorite in the “People’s Choice” category.
In addition to barbecue tasting and voting, the event will feature live music and children’s activities, including inflatables, face-painting and sidewalk chalk.
“This fun-filled event is a great way for families to kick off the Labor Day holiday and the football season while supporting deserving charities,” said Event Chairperson and Brasfield & Gorrie Chief Estimator Dan Spooner. “We invite everyone to come out to enjoy the food and networking and support organizations that benefit our community.”
The event will be held on the top floor of Brasfield & Gorrie’s three-story parking deck located at 3021 7th Avenue South. Tickets can be purchased in advance at https://bbqcookoff.www.brasfieldgorrie.com/Storefront/ and will be available at the event. T-shirts and raffle tickets will also be available for sale.
More than 91,000 pounds of meat were cooked and sold at last year’s BBQ Cook-Off event, which raised $92,000 for local charities. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit nine local charities, including the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, American Red Cross, Christian Service Mission, Down Syndrome Alabama, M-Power Ministries, Magic Moments, The Amelia Center, Triumph Services and the UAB Tuberous Sclerosis Clinic \ Huntington’s Disease Clinic.
