Brasfield & Gorrie Observes Women in Construction Week

March 5, 2019

As we celebrate the women in our industry during Women in Construction week, we’ll share perspectives from female professionals who play crucial roles throughout our company. Each year we join the National Association of Women in Construction to raise awareness of the opportunities available for women in construction and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry. Check back each day this week for new profiles.

Rosa Cortes

Assistant VDC Coordinator Rosa Cortez is working on our Piedmont Atlanta Tower project assisting the project team in all aspects of planning, executing, and closing out building information modeling deliverables. She says, “At Brasfield & Gorrie, we are celebrated as individuals and appreciated for our differences. My future opportunities are limitless, but among them are the chance to help grow a community that I am happy to raise my children in, being involved in a network of hard-working and supportive people whose values align with my own, and looking forward to each new day, knowing that I am doing what I love.”

Taylor Nester

Project Manager Taylor Nester currently leads our work on the Passion City Church Cumberland campus in Atlanta. She says, “Throughout my career, I’ve been blessed to benefit from the supportive and respectful culture Brasfield & Gorrie fosters. One example of this is the Women’s Resource Group, which facilitates connection between women in operations roles across our company, creating a unique opportunity for networking and support. On a day-to-day level within my region and division, I benefit from constant support and encouragement as well as the tools and training I need to succeed.”

Ann Freeman

As our Jacksonville office manager, Ann Freeman is known as a jack-of-all-trades — there’s not a problem she can’t tackle! “Mr. Gorrie’s inclusion of Imogene Powell as a company founder was bold and progressive, and we continue to champion her spirit today,” said Ann Freeman. “It’s exciting to look across the company’s footprint and see an increasing number of women in key roles. We are self-motivated and committed to excellence, and we strengthen every team we join.”

La Toya Cathey

Benefits Coordinator La Toya Cathey develops plans for employees to engage more in the benefits and systems that are available to them in their personal and professional growth. “Brasfield & Gorrie believes in employee development, and management listens to my ideas and allows me to use my skills and experience, which makes me feel valued. I am empowered to continue to learn and share knowledge.”

Lauren Edwards

Chief Preconstruction Manager Lauren Edwards is a respected leader at work, a pillar in her community, and a role model at home. She says, “I’ve been fortunate in my career to have growth opportunities that support my passion for construction. I’ve been encouraged to excel and do my best every day, and have been mentored and guided along the way. The folks I’ve worked with have always challenged me with career goals that push me to do more.”
