Brasfield & Gorrie Completes Construction of Grandview Medical Center

General contractor completes project started 14 years ago
Birmingham, Ala. (November 5, 2015) –Brasfield & Gorrie today announced the completion of construction at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
Brasfield & Gorrie and strategic partner A.G. GastonTM served as construction managers for this project at Grandview Medical Center. The scope of work included the build-out of a 12-story, 1 million sq ft hospital constructed by Brasfield & Gorrie in 2002 as well as related construction for Daniel Corporation of a 220,000 sq ft POB and 2,900-space parking deck. Brasfield & Gorrie also completed site work and integrated systems between the new POB and the existing hospital.
In a fitting nod to the hospital’s future as a center of innovation, the project team utilized numerous innovative tools and techniques during construction. When the project was halted in 2003, the team had spent nearly $1 million printing blueprints; during the recently completed project, the team spent less than $50,000 on drawing distribution. A key contributor to these savings included a self-meshable wireless network encompassing the entire 15-acre jobsite that enabled drawings to be immediately updated on 150 iPads with one click of a button. 
Other innovative measures included digital mobile plan carts, 4-D laser scanning of the building for use in BIM modeling in lieu of verification of all existing structural and MEP components by hand, and even a partnership with Auburn University to research ways to use unmanned aerial vehicles when inspecting existing building skin.

The hospital opened to the public on October 10, 2015.
