Brasfield & Gorrie is currently constructing the concrete foundations and underground mechanical and electrical for a new greenfield integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plant in Kemper County, Mississippi. The concrete foundations scope of work consists of constructing more than 600 structures totaling approximately 93,000 cubic yards of concrete. These foundations require the installation of roughly 3,000 pieces of embedded metal, 6,500 tons of reinforcing steel, and over 20,000 anchor bolts. The underground mechanical scope includes approximately 140,000 linear feet of various types of piping ranging in size from 96-inch spiral weld circulating water pipe and 72-inch storm piping to 14-inch gas piping and 4-inch potable water piping. The underground electrical scope includes approximately 750,000 linear feet of encased electrical conduit in various duct bank configurations. The project involves 600 skilled craftsman, 11 cranes, and 85 pieces of large earthmoving/excavation equipment.
