Jekyll Island, Georgia

Client:
The Jekyll Island Authority

Project Size:
150,000 sq ft

Recognition:

LEEDĀ® Silver certified

ABC Georgia Award of Excellence

The new 150,000 sq ft Jekyll Island Convention Center is the only oceanfront convention center south of New Jersey. The Center features a 45,000 sq ft divisible exhibit/banquet hall, 12 breakout meeting rooms, 5,600 sq ft of outdoor terraces, an outdoor stage, event lawns, and pavilions.

This project consisted of three major components: demolition of the existing facility, construction of the new building, and extensive site work.

Given that the project was designed to achieve LEEDĀ Silver certification, the project team opted to crush the existing concrete and reuse it as compacted base material for the new convention center foundation, all of its roadways, and the parking lot.

The project team implemented BIM coordination from the early design stages through construction. The BIM coordination effort was a key element in realizing cost savings, improving schedule efficiency, and detecting conflicts before they became field issues.
