This design-build project included a power house and utility plant to feed the Airbus campus for manufacturing of the A321 aircraft at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley. Utilities included potable water, fire protection water, sanitary sewer, campus electrical distribution, hot water, chilled water, and compressed air. Brasfield & Gorrie spearheaded a progressive, hands-on scheduling program based on Lean fabrication practices, reduction of field waste, and constant pull planning for critical interim milestone dates. Our team planned extensively and used BIM technology; nearly all mechanical piping and ductwork was pre-assembled, leaving only field connections of large components. The power house facility achieved LEED Gold certification, helping the site meet Airbus’ corporate sustainability goals, including reducing overall energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
