Second Avenue Railroad Overpass

Located within walking distance of the University of Alabama’s campus, this project includes a bridge that will be built over railroad tracks and will connect Second Avenue to Lancaster Road. The new overpass will also feature wide paths for pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

The 751-foot, eight-span bridge will cross over two railroad tracks owned by two different rail companies. The bridge substructure will be supported by more than 170 driven H-piles, and the superstructure will be supported by 72 prestressed concrete girders. The project also includes decorative fencing and a full lighting package that will span the length of the bridge. Brasfield & Gorrie will be self-performing the grading, mechanically stabilized earth wall construction, utility installation, piling, concrete structure, and girder erection.

"I have been in construction for 21 years, so I am a little jaded towards contractors. I have worked with Brasfield & Gorrie on three different projects in those 20+ years. They are the best contractor I have worked with."
