Brasfield & Gorrie completes third construction project on Airbus campus Birmingham, Ala. (September 14, 2015) – Brasfield & Gorrie today announced the completion of a construction package including the build-out of the A320 final assembly line hangar (FAL), service building and logistics center on the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility campus in Mobile, Alabama. A ribbon cutting ceremony marked the completion of the project, which began in January 2014. Brasfield & Gorrie teamed with architect The Austin Company and Gulf States Engineering to complete the 275,000 sq ft project, which included underground concrete media tunnels; structural slab on grade; complete mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems; and interior build-out for the FAL hangar, service building and logistics center. The service building is the office corridor that houses the plant management staff, and the logistics building houses the necessary parts to assemble the interior of the aircraft. The FAL project is the third the company has completed on the Airbus campus. In November 2014, the company completed a project led by Honeywell to construct a power house and utility plant to feed the Airbus campus for the manufacture of the A320 aircraft. In May 2014, the company completed a project including pilings and foundations for the FAL structure.

The company’s construction work on the Airbus campus has had an economic impact on the local community. According to company officials, nearly $25 million in contracts has been sourced to local subcontractors and vendors over the course of the general contractor’s work on the campus. Additionally, nearly 47 percent of all craft personnel on these jobs were hired locally from surrounding counties, including Mobile, Baldwin, Washington and Escambia. Nearly 40 percent of Brasfield & Gorrie’s subcontractors and vendors were local.
