Groundbreaking ceremony marks start of work on new luxury hotel

Jackson, Miss. (Aug. 4, 2015) – A groundbreaking ceremony today marked the start of construction on a new WestinTM Jackson hotel in Jackson, Mississippi.

Slated to open in January 2017, the 169,000 sq ft structure will be the first luxury global hotel brand in Jackson. The nine-story hotel will feature 205 guest rooms.

“This kind of an investment in downtown impacts the entire region and helps support our efforts to make Jackson a destination city,” said Jackson mayor-yarber-webMayor Tony T. Yarber. “We are proud that the Westin Jackson is part of the growth and progress of our great city.”

Participants in the development include Capital Hotel Associates, Hinds County, Jackson Redevelopment Authority, the State of Mississippi and Wischermann Partners. Brasfield & Gorrie is serving as general contractor and Elness Swenson Graham Architects Inc. is the project architect.

“The Mississippi Legislature, the City of Jackson and the Hinds County Board of Supervisors have joined together on this project to make an impact on Mississippi,” said Joseph Simpson of Capital Hotel Associates. “As the only full-service Starwood Hotel in Mississippi, the Westin Jackson will change the landscape of the hospitality industry in the state.
