Brasfield & Gorrie Completes WellStar Paulding Hospital

March 19, 2014

Fast-track construction of $92 million hospital enhanced by innovative construction techniques

Atlanta, Ga. (March 19, 2014) – Brasfield & Gorrie today announced the completion of the $92 million WellStar Paulding Hospital in Hiram, Ga.

Scheduled to see its first patients on April 1, 2014, WellStar Paulding Hospital is a replacement facility designed to promote safe, high quality, patient-centered care.

The eight-story, 295,700 sq ft hospital will be among the first hospitals in the country conditioned solely by a geothermal heat pump and a radiant floor system, which maintains the building temperature naturally using sub-surface conductive heat transfer.

The hospital also incorporates a number of design elements to promote a positive patient experience, including decentralized nursing stations, standardized patient rooms with hotel-like amenities, expanded emergency exam rooms and natural sunlight in family waiting areas.

Numerous innovative techniques were used in the fast-track construction of this facility. The project team leveraged building information modeling (BIM) with other cutting-edge technologies and prefabrication to create efficiencies in the schedule while also maintaining the budget and enhancing quality and safety.

WellStar Paulding Hospital is also Brasfield & Gorrie’s seventh OSHA Strategic Partnership Program (OSPP) project. Nearly 4,000 training hours were provided to Brasfield & Gorrie employees as well as subcontractor employees through this voluntary program, increasing the number of trained employees in the local community.

Serving as general contractor, Brasfield & Gorrie partnered with CDH Partners Inc. on this project, which began in January 2012. In addition to the hospital facility, the project also included a four-story, 82,220 sq ft medical office building (MOB) that ties in to an existing MOB, and a 120,000 sq ft precast parking deck for a total project cost of $135 million.

The hospital will celebrate with pre-grand opening events on March 22, 2014.
