Brasfield & Gorrie Completes New Student Housing at Vanderbilt University

Warren and Moore Residential Colleges completed ahead of schedule
Nashville, Tenn. (Aug. 11, 2014) – Brasfield & Gorrie today announced the ahead-of-schedule completion of a $94 million student housing project at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. The general contractor completed the new Warren and Moore residential colleges at Vanderbilt University 10 weeks ahead of schedule.
Designed to replace six existing residence halls constructed in the 1960s, the two new residential colleges include 395,000 sq ft and will house nearly 660 students. The facilities also include a centrally located student center, underground parking and mechanical spaces.
Numerous sustainable business practices were used as part of the project, which has been submitted for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold certification. The team recycled more than 75 percent of the 21,000 tons of debris removed from the site following demolition of the existing buildings.
The project also incorporated unique design elements involving more than 1.6 million bricks, four ornate limestone arches with hand-carved details and a 100-year roof. More than 450 workers were on the jobsite at the peak of the project, which is the largest ever handled by Vanderbilt Campus Planning.
Brasfield & Gorrie’s Nashville office teamed with architect Goody Clancy on this project, which began in May 2012.
