Brasfield & Gorrie Celebrates Newly Constructed Hospital

February 13, 2012

Hopkinsville, Kent.— Brasfield & Gorrie, LLC, under contract with Universal Health Services, recently completed a replacement facility for  Cumberland Hall Hospital. Louisville-based Stengel Hill Architecture performed the architecture and design services. The new 69,020 sq ft behavioral health facility includes units dedicated to children, adolescents, adults, and active duty military. Other key features are an on-site school, fully equipped gymnasium, and outdoor recreational area.

The new military wing at Cumberland Hall Hospital serves patients dealing with combat-related stress and trauma. The new facility’s proximity to Fort Campbell enables enhanced collaboration and more convenient access for military doctors and therapists to monitor their patients.

Brasfield & Gorrie incorporated lean construction philosophies and methodologies in the planning and construction of the facility. These methods allowed the project team to maximize value for the customer by increasing efficiency, improving work flow, reducing waste, and continuously improving processes while maintaining or increasing quality.

In addition, Brasfield & Gorrie used integrated project delivery (IPD) to increase the predictability of costs and schedule throughout the life of the project. IPD encourages enhanced coordination and collaboration among all team members, including the owner, designers, and builders, from the earliest stage of a project. The result was a reduction of waste, expense, and safety risk on the Universal Health Services facility.
