Brasfield & Gorrie Breaks Ground on Spring Valley Hospital Expansion and Renovation

Brasfield & Gorrie deploys innovative project delivery approach on company’s first Nevada project

Birmingham, Ala. (June 26, 2015) – Brasfield & Gorrie today announced that construction is under way on a $28 million renovation and expansion at Spring Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada, for owner Universal Health Services (UHS). A groundbreaking ceremony was held to mark the start of work on this project, which will be Brasfield & Gorrie’s first in the state of Nevada.

The scope of the project includes a new 88,000 sq ft, four-floor patient tower addition and 15,000 sq ft of renovation work. The new patient tower will include an 18-bed post-partum unit on the first floor, a 36-bed surgical unit on the second floor, administrative offices on the fourth floor and additional shell space for future growth.

The construction team will utilize the UHS-specific integrated project delivery (IPD) method, a collaborative delivery method involving engagement of all parties throughout the life of the project, from preconstruction to completion. Most commonly used in healthcare construction, IPD has been shown to improve construction efficiency, manage risks, and manage predictability of cost and schedule. The UHS-specific IPD method takes this process one step further to eliminate waste through the entire project life cycle.

Serving as general contractor, Brasfield & Gorrie is teaming with owner UHS and HGA Architects and Engineers on this project. Construction is expected to complete in late 2016.
