Two Brasfield & Gorrie employees among five national outstanding mentor award winners

BIRMINGHAM (April 26, 2017) – Two Brasfield & Gorrie employees were recognized among 2017 ENR-ACE Outstanding Mentors, a competitive award sponsored by Engineering News-Record. Recipients of this award include Virtual Design Coordinator Michael Hasamoh and Corporate Services Project Manager and ACE alumnus David Meek. The two honorees are among five national award winners, marking the first time in the award history that two employees from the same company have been recognized.

Hasamoh has volunteered with ACE for eight years, leading the ACE Atlanta Curriculum Planning Group and serving as the lead mentor for the ACE Atlanta North group. Meek has volunteered with ACE for four years, serving as a mentor team leader for ACE Nashville, and has deeply invested on all levels of the program at Martin Luther King Jr. High School.

During the award ceremony on April 24, 2017, the honorees each received a $2,500 check to be used for a student scholarship named in their honor.

The ACE Mentor Program of America Inc. focuses on mentoring and inspiring over 8,000 high school students annually to pursue careers in design and construction by exposing them to real work environments and providing them with a hands-on education.

Because of the 3,500 volunteer mentors, ACE could award over $14 million in scholarships to students studying industry-related fields at the college level, or who are enrolled in a skilled craft training program. In 2016, 800 students received $1.7 million in scholarships.

Brasfield & Gorrie’s efforts to help develop the next generation of builders are reflected in the company’s relationship with the ACE Mentor Program. More than 15 Brasfield & Gorrie employees currently serve as ACE mentors or serve on the board of local ACE chapters.

Brasfield & Gorrie also invests in building the next generation of builders through its co-op and internship programs as well as partnerships with high school craft training programs, such as Huffman High School Construction Academy in Birmingham, Alabama, and Dickson County School District in Tennessee.
