Rollins College Bush Science Building

Winter Park, Florida

Client:
Rollins College

Project Size:
115,000 sq ft

Recognition:

LEED® Gold certified

The Rollins College Bush Science Center project consists of the renovation of an existing 85,000 sq ft science building and construction of a 19,000 sq ft addition. The original building was constructed in 1967, and the renovation includes removing and remodeling almost the entire interior in addition to demolishing and reconstructing the exterior.

The project required 85,000 sq ft of demolition, including all exterior walls, interior walls, ceilings, flooring, mechanical systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, associated equipment, and the 17,000 sq ft Johnson Center, which was attached to the original building. The project also required removal of portions of the floor and reinforcement of the floor and roof to accommodate new mechanical equipment.

Although the project was seeking LEED Silver certification, it achieved enough points to earn LEED Gold certification. Sustainable features include a rainwater harvesting system, a white cap sheet on the roof, an energy recovery unit, and a dedicated recycling area.
