Columbia, Alabama

Client:
Southern Nuclear Operating Company

Project Size:
77,000 sq ft

This four-story, 77,000 sq ft operations building houses Plant Farley managers and administrative personnel. The building consists of a structural steel frame, metal stud framing, curtain wall glazing, and brick veneer with cast stone accents. The facility includes a full kitchen and dining hall that serves building occupants as well as other plant employees. The new building includes technically sophisticated video conference rooms, a gym, an aerobics room, full shower facilities, and an outside dining veranda.

Additional scope included the expansion of the existing independent spent fuel storage installation (ISFSI). Brasfield & Gorrie self-performed the forming, reinforcing, and placing of two 27-inch-thick, 99.5- by 31-foot concrete ISFSI pads. Also self-performed were the installation of an 18-inch compacted dense-graded base crawler path around the new ISFSI pads and the installation of new fencing around the ISFSI area. The work was performed within the protected area (PA) of the site, and all workers received training and security clearance as required.
