Alabama Judicial Authority

Project Size:
340,000 sq ft

Located in the State of Alabama’s governmental complex in downtown Montgomery, this 340,000 sq ft landmark building has many interesting and challenging architectural features.

The concrete-frame structure features a gunite dome that rises above a stainless steel roof and is the largest known of its type. Indiana limestone, granite, and brick grace the building’s exterior. The front entrance is supported by 10 load-bearing limestone columns, each weighing 150,000 pounds. The impressive interior features mahogany millwork and casework, Italian marble, and painted trim. More than 21,000 pieces of marble, granite, and limestone were used to complete this project. The facility includes audio, video, and security surveillance systems and an underground garage parking structure that accommodates 140 vehicles.

The building houses the Supreme Court of Alabama, civil and criminal appellate courts, the Alabama Law Library, and a variety of office suites, administrative offices, and conference rooms.
