LORENZO
Laborer

In high school, Lorenzo worked with his dad in residential construction and took a class with the Academy of Craft Training. He came to our company after graduating high school, and he’s currently working on a $70 million utility project in the Birmingham area.

How did you get into construction?

My dad worked in residential construction hanging drywall. I would help him during my summer breaks. In high school, I went to the Academy of Craft Training and took a class called Interior/Exterior Finishes. That class taught me more about construction, which was helpful because I was undecided about my future plans.

How has your career grown since starting at Brasfield & Gorrie?

I was hired as a laborer. I’ve had an opportunity to learn how to lay pipe as well as carpenter opportunities.

What do you like most about your job? What are you passionate about in construction?

I’m passionate about learning new things and seeing how a job transforms over time.

What is a valuable lesson that you’ve learned during your career?

Safety is important. I’ve learned the importance of PPE, watching for hazards, and watching out for the other people you work around. We’re a team and we take care of each other.
