KALEB
Superintendent

During a tough time, an opportunity to apply as a carpenter with Brasfield & Gorrie turned things around for Kaleb. Today, he’s working as a superintendent out of our Mississippi office and is admired for his work ethic and positive attitude. Kaleb credits the company with giving him opportunities to succeed, build a career, and provide for his family.

How did you get into construction?

In 2011, I was in a bad place in my life. I did not have a job. My wife and I weren’t married yet, and my son was just born. We did not have our own place. So, at that point, we were basically sleeping in my truck.

One night, while I was driving around looking for a place to park, my cousin called me and asked if I had heard of this company called Brasfield & Gorrie. He told me they were working at the power plant in Kemper County. He said they were looking for carpenters and asked if I would be interested in going with him the next day to try and get a job. I was hired on as a carpenter. That’s when my life turned around and changed for the good. Getting hired on with Brasfield & Gorrie got me where I am today, and I am very thankful.

How has your career grown since starting at Brasfield & Gorrie?

From starting out as a carpenter that nobody really knew to now being a well-known superintendent by many important people in the company, it feels like I’m really somebody. Feeling like that makes me excited to get up and go to my job every day. Being able to have many things that I never thought I would be able to have and being able to do things that I never thought I could afford to do is a blessing to me, and Brasfield & Gorrie helped me achieve all of those things.

What do you like most about your job? What are you passionate about in construction?

The company gives you plenty of opportunities to succeed, and you’re treated like family, not just a number. The most fun part of my job is being able to work with such good people. Even though you come to work to get the job done, you can also have fun doing it. I enjoy getting to know my team members by name. I want to help them any way I can, with work or whatever else it might be. Basically, I just want people who work with me to know I have their back.

What is a valuable lesson that you’ve learned during your career? Any advice you’d like to share?

It’s difficult to be in situations that you are not used to. You have to challenge yourself, figure out the problem, and come up with the best solution. Being a superintendent is not as easy as just telling someone what to do. There is so much more that comes along with the job. I’m am happy to be in the position to make my team members feel like they are not just a number and they are very important.
